I chose the movie The Help as inspiration for my final project. The movie was set in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960’s. Sharen Davis was the costume designer for The Help and she portrayed the southern belles with bold floral prints, modest necklines and full skirts nipped at the waist. I was inspired by the colors and print used throughout the movie. I also really like the silhouettes of all of the dresses in the movie. For my final project I am getting inspiration from all of the women in The Help. I plan to draw some aspects from different characters and make a garment with my own personal twist to it.

I love the boldness of Celia Foote. She does not fit in perfectly with the Southern belles, her clothing style stood out. I particularly like her yellow romper.

I really like the neckline of Skeeter’s dress and also the color.

I do not like Hilly’s character but I love her dress. The use of floral print and the silhouette are both perfect.
